Resume database ZillionResumes.com (http://zillionresumes.com) reports a 30% increase in recruiter activity since it hit the lowest point a year ago.   This may be welcome news to recruiters who have been one of the hardest hit segments of the economy since the beginning of the global financial crisis.

As unemployment rose and fewer job openings sprung up, recruiters were disproportionately hit in the pocketbook.  Not only were there fewer jobs to be placed, but employers noting the easier hiring and excess supply of recruiters have been offering lower commissions for placements.  Many employers have even decided to skip using recruiters all together.

Now signs indicate that the employment market is improving, albeit slowly.  During the 3 month period of May, June, and July of 2009 recruiter activity on ZillionResumes.com ground to record lows.  During the 3 month period of December 2009, January and February of 2010 recruiter activity has increased 30% according to ZillionResumes.  At present March is on track to be an even bigger month than the previous.

The downside to this growth is that it happening slowly at a time when recruiters are still hurting from the record lows of mid 2009.  To compensate ZillionResumes customer service agent Ryan Pierce says they have lowered their prices to match the current economic state.  "We plan on maintaining these low prices while the economy is still in slow recovery mode", he stated, adding "We have survived this downturn while many competitors have shut down because we keep prices low and diversify the industries we cater to."

While the greater employment market recovery will most likely be slow and steady, the recruiter market is more difficult to predict.  The recruiter market tends to not be linearly tied to the employment market - one reason being the additional variable of employer's propensity to utilize recruiters for openings that are available.  The bulk of the recruiter activity drop occurred early 2009.  Further the supply of recruiters does not necessarily change at a rate proportional to their demand - one of the reasons for this is personal finances as recruiting is a commission based field.

Regardless of the pace of recovery ahead, ZillionResumes and the rest of the recruiting industry will adapt.
