Children at Mossley Junior School pledge to collect loose change
Kind-hearted pupils at a Bloxwich primary school are pledging their support to Walsall Hospice by collecting loose change for the next three months as part of a major fundraising campaign.
Youngsters at Mossley Primary School will be donating their pennies to the Hospice as part of the charity’s Joy of Six drive.
All eight classrooms have been given collection boxes in the shape of bricks and every child has promised to take in some change to help towards raising the £1.5 million needed for equipment and initial running costs.
The money raised from the “bricks” will directly help open, equip, and run the hospice, which is part of the palliative care centre in Goscote Lane, Goscote, and due to open early in 2011.
Supporters all over the borough are being urged to raise just £6 each by June 16 and children at Mossley are keen to champion the charity and collect as much as possible.
The special brick collection boxes are being collected in the town centre on June 16 and Mossley pupils have promised they will be there to donate their money and sign a special piece of artwork that will hang in the hospice to commemorate the fundraising effort.
Cheryl Bradburne, head of fundraising at Walsall Hospice, thanked the school for backing its campaign.
“The children have a tremendous understanding about the hospice and its work and we are very grateful that they want to help us by collecting their loose change,” she said.
“I imagine they will enjoy searching under sofas and in their coat pockets, looking for spare pennies for us!”
