Property in Dwarka and the development work in dwarka is going at a frenetic pace. Big shopping complexes, state of the art schools, wide roads are some of the silver linings. Besides, Delhi Metro is going to become a reality soon here which will benefit immensely the residents of this sub city. The DDA has initiated a lot of new projects in dwarka which are expected to be completed in the next one to two years. But because of that there are plenty of vacant sites in the area. Heaps of garbage and construction waste dumped on vacant plots are a common sight in Dwarka.
A vacant plot of land at Sector 13 Dwarka earmarked for socio cultural centre has virtually fallen into disuse. The rag pickers bring lot of garbage from nearby resettlement colonies on their hand earts and dump these here. The land is also littered with industrial and construction waste. These rag pickers generally come in the afternoon with their carts to dump the garbage, informs the boy who runs a tea shop from the site itself.
According to a top DDA official, who didn't want to be quoted, and involved with various projects of Dwarka, It is a land earmarked for a socio cultural centre which will e having art galleries, planetarium, auditorium, etc. to promote cultural activiies in Dwarka. This land is yet to be taken up for construction activity by a government department. Generally DDA hands over various sites in Dwarka to MCD for development purpose. This site is still with the DDA and has not been handed over to MCD so far.
People generally throw garbage on vacant land. It seems Asia's largest colony is slowly but steadily turning into a dumping ground. Most of the residents living in sectors 12 and 13 are suffering for this stinking plot of land. No only do these areas stink, they have also become a perfect breading ground for mosquitoes. And it's the residents of neighboring apartments who have to suffer.
