India Gearing up for Commonwealth Games

March 18, 2010 - PRLog -- As the 19th Commonwealth Games is just a few months away, Delhi is gearing up rapidly to host one of the biggest events of sports. The government has spent over Rs. 1.6 billion for hosting the event successfully in which about 71 teams are expected to participate. There is absolutely no wonder that it is a matter of pride for India to host this global multi-sport event for the first time. The event will not only help in strengthening the ties between the various nations, but also help to portray India as apt as any other country to host such big events.

Although the government has some big plans of infrastructural changes over the city of New Delhi by upgrading the existing as well as developing new games venue, connecting Delhi Metro throughout Noida and Gurgaon, there is a question mark behind the timely execution of the plans. There are various projects on which the work is being delayed and people have suffered from accidents and many other problems. The global economic crisis has also affected the preparation of the Commonwealth Games and Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi informed that the budget for the mega-event will be increased due to the financial crisis and the higher construction costs.
