Candle making is a fun hobby, whether you make them as gifts or for yourself to use. Experimentation is always part of the process but as you do, eventually you will learn the perfect procedure in making candles.

The supplies that you’ll need in making candles are wax, wicks, mold or containers, wax melter, candle making thermometer, fragrances, dyes and putty for molds. You must choose what wax to use; paraffin wax, soy wax and bees wax. You begin by spreading newspapers around the candle making area. The mixing process begins with the melting of the wax. This is done at 130 degrees F. While the wax is melting, the wick is measured, and then is placed in the center of the mold. The stearic acid and dye are then mixed and dissolved in a pot. Once the mixture reaches 190 degrees F, all ingredients are added, stirred and blended. The temperatures during this process are maintained at the same 190 degrees.

If all the ingredients have been blended, the wax is then poured into the mold. The mold forms the actual shape of the candle. The wax is allowed to cool. During the cooling process, the wax contracts and creates a small well around the wick. When the wax is cooled thoroughly, the candle is removed. The final product should have an even distribution of color, a smooth surface and a pleasant but not overwhelming fragrance.

One candle may be highly profitable if it is a work of art. This skill is restricted only to wax but also to some creative forms of arts such as selling items that are decorated or complimented by candles, driftwood centerpieces with candles.
