Santa Fe, NM. Esteemed Santa Fe Attorney, Gary Elion is affectionately recognized as “the People’s Lawyer” by many of his clients. He has a reputation of providing free legal services to many in Northern New Mexico who would otherwise not be able to afford them.
Today, Elion, 63, filed the 2010 Nominating Petition with the Secretary of State declaring his candidacy to fill the seat as the next District Court Judge in the First Judicial District, Division VIII.
Elion is a graduate of the University of San Francisco Law School, Harvard Business School and Williams College. He began his practice in Family Law. In fact, he obtained his first domestic violence restraining order and divorce on behalf of a client, while attending law school. He worked as a certified law student for San Francisco Neighborhood Legal Assistance Fund. Through this experience, he found fulfillment in serving people in all walks of life. Now, he provides legal services for many government employees through their legal insurance program.
Elion is well-known as an expert in civil procedure for both state and federal courts. He is admitted to practice in New Mexico, California and before the United States Supreme Court. For many years he has held the position of Attorney Editor for the nation’s most prestigious legal publisher. He edits specialized software for use in law firms across the country.
Elion served as Vice President and General Counsel of International Communication and Energy from 1988 to 1996, supervising alternative energy programs such as geothermal energy exploration.
Before attending law school, Elion was in broadcast management for ten years and won an Emmy Award as the News Director of a San Francisco television station.
