PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 17, 2010 -
Undeniably, model trains have captured train hobbyists imaginations. However, there is something beyond simply collecting the locomotives. Engaging in model railway trains also involves learning all the information that goes along with it like building model train - scenery, gauges and scales. That's what makes this such a fascinating, and engaging hobby.

First, model train scale refers to the size of a toy train in comparison to the prototype one. The four known scales are G, O, HO, and N.

G scale models have a ratio of 1:22 while the O scale has a ratio of 1:48. Both are under larger-scale train class as they run on a No. 1 track.

On the other hand, HO model railroads have a ratio of 1:87 as they stand half the size smaller than the O model. HO scale train is also said to be the choice of many train enthusiasts because of its durability.

The second thing you really need to know about is the gauge. This refers to the size of the track between the two rails of track. With so many trains and tracks manufacturers nowadays, they all agreed upon certain sizes to make trains and tracks compatible.

The average gauge is about four feet and eight and a half inches while the narrow gauge is roughly three feet to three and a half feet. They labeled it as narrow gauge because it has rails that are closer together than the typical one.

One other important aspect of model railroad trains is building the scenery. Train lovers run their trains through a landscape layout they have imagined and created. These designs are tailored to fit the vision of the hobbyist. Such activity allows model locomotive hobbyists to express their artistic abilities to the full, and provides an opportunity for hours of pleasure.
