Al Badia Golf Course played host to the PGA Medal on Wednesday March 17. On a day where St Patrick apparently favours' the Irish, the leaderboard showed that luck was not a gift that was going to be given easily!
Play was from the courses' red tees, a length of 5,398 yards, and the scores remained close providing a day where the lead was continually challenged.
Steven Munro of Jumeirah Golf Estates played a steady front nine, then stepped up on the back nine to shoot 33. Munro carded a total of 8 birdies, including the 17th and 18th which ensured he claimed the podium with a strong 3-under par 69.
“It is great to finally get my first win on the UAE PGA circuit, having come close a few times in the past” said Munro. "I have been playing consistently all season, without any fireworks, but today was a little different as I finally got the putter hot and managed 8 birdies” he added, "I hope I can continue the form through until the end of the season and hopefully gain a top 3 finish in the Order of Merit”
A strong challenge for the title came from Stuart Fee, Jebel Ali Golf Club, who shot an outstanding 32 coming home, wrapping-up with a tidy par on the 18th. Fee finished his day one shot behind the leader with a 2-under par 70 to claim the runner-up spot.
Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club's David Gray shared the lead with Munro, at the turn, on 1-under par, however was out performed on the last 9 by Fee and Munro to walk away with third.
