Hampton Roads, VA – March 17, 2010 – The 38th Annual Yuengling Shamrock Marathon will be green in more ways than one as competitors gear up for the marathon, half marathon and children’s 8k run events this weekend at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Commemorating St. Patrick’s Day, the weekend event will be held March 19th - 21st.
Shamrock Marathon participants recycled approximately 1,490 pounds of recyclables at last year's races. That is the equivalent to recovering more than 65,120 plastic water bottles and energy drinks that were destined for the landfill.
“Those involved in this event not only care about their health and well-being, but the health and well-being of the environment as well,” said Ed Farmer, vice president of Business Development for TFC Recycling. “They are enthusiastic in their efforts to see that every plastic bottle and aluminum can that can be recycled reaches one of our special event containers.”
Virginia Beach recycling bins provided by TFC Recycling will be in place to accommodate the 23,000 participants and the large crowd of spectators and volunteers expected to cheer them on.
“We appreciate the support that TFC Recycling has received from race organizers and look forward to an exciting race and environmentally-
