Indian parents and their kids are a stressed-out lot. A spate of pre-teen suicides in the news has led to a growing concern about the pressures that Indian kids and their parents are facing. LovingYourChild.com is a brand new website on parenting launched with the aim of taking the pressure off Indian parents and their kids.

There are pressing reasons for why this parenting website came into existence. While the West has evolved parenting models based both on the latest findings and cultural values, Indian parenting has largely remained retrograde in its approach.

Launched by the India-based content marketing company, SEO & More, LovingYourChild.com focuses on the issues faced by Indian parents and will feature content that shows parents how to give their children the kind of love and nurturing that will help them develop into happy and well-adjusted adults.

“Parenting in India is still not child-focused,” says Priya Florence Shah, founder and editor of LovingYourChild.com “While there certainly is growing awareness about the fact that children are unique and precious individuals, parents in this country still tend to view their kids as extensions of themselves. This causes serious problems, since children inherit the maladjustments of their parents and immediate family.”

Indian children are succumbing to the pressures of conforming to obsolete and inhuman models of discipline, education and overall behavior. There are increasing reports of depression and other stress-related syndromes among very young children. Of late, pre-teen suicides, brought on by unrealistic expectations of parents and the school system, have been on the rise. It’s nothing short of an ongoing and accelerating tragedy.

“We expect our kids to withstand the stress of competition and performance expectations. In the process, we rob them of their childhoods.” says Priya Florence Shah. “We hope that Indian parents will learn to view their children as individuals in their own right, with their own personalities and aspirations. This growing awareness was well-illustrated in the recent Bollywood blockbuster movie, 3 Idiots.”

LovingYourChild.com was launched to help parents understand the unique needs of their children, and to love them accordingly. It aims to address some of the greatest injustices being perpetrated on our children today.

“We hope to help parents understand that they need to stop pressuring their kids to fulfill their unfulfilled dreams and expectations and to help children express their unique talents.” says Ms Shah. “As parents we can neither indulge or neglect our kids, but rather provide them with kind and loving discipline.”

LovingYourChild.com will provide parents in India and the rest of the world with compassionate, yet authoritative, resources to evolve past outdated parenting models, and to accept, cherish and embrace our children as the precious gifts they are to us.
