All grapes needs full sun, moderate water and some timely care. After choosing the type of grape you want to plant, you can now plant them in a location that receives full sunlight. It is mandatory for good fruit production. The growing fruit needs ample heat and take note that vines that are planted in partial shade are prone to fungus disease. It is very vital to growing grape success to keep the soil loose, fast draining and loamy. You have to take into account that grapes are very deep rooted, so the deeper you amend the soil the better. It is also ideal to add organic compost to a depth of 24-36 inches.

Trellis or other type of support for the vines should be provided. There are some grape varieties that grow rampantly and will need adequate support. Trellising also keeps the fruit above the ground and preventing it from touching the soil which would make it susceptible to rot.

You have to prune the grapes when they are dormant. Fruit will eventually be produced on one year old wood, on stems that have formed the previous season. One year wood has smooth bark, while older wood has a shaggy appearance. It is advisable to retain a basic framework and remove long runners in order to keep the plants compact and under control.

Lastly on how to grow grapes at home, you need to remove long runners mid season in order to keep plants under control. There you go, happy planting.
