March 16, 2010 - PRLog -- The entry period for the 15th Annual EPpy™ Awards, which honor the best Web sites presented by media-affiliated companies, has been extended to midnight Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Entries are accepted online only at the EPpy™ Awards Web site, www.eppyawards.com.

The 2010 edition of the EPpy™ Awards will accept entries in 36 categories, including a new competition for Best Social Networking Implementation on a Media-Affiliated Web site. In addition to the 36 category awards, the EPpy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement is expected to be given again this year.

“With all of the interest in social networking technology, we thought it was only right to add a new category this year to address it,” said Charles McKeown, Publisher of Editor & Publisher magazine, which sponsors the awards program. “It acknowledges the importance of both the topic and the medium of social networking.”

The EPpy™ Awards entries will only be accepted via the Web site www.eppyawards.com, which can also be accessed from the Web site of its sponsor: Editor & Publisher, www.editorandpublisher.com.

The EPpy™ Awards will be presented at an awards luncheon at the Interactive Media Conference and Trade Show at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Thursday, June 17, 2010. The conference and trade show is also sponsored by Editor & Publisher.   To register or for more information about the conference, visit www.interactivemediaconference.com.

The 2010 EPpy Awards consist of 36 awards for media Web sites.  There are three awards for best overall media-affiliated Web sites: for newspapers, magazines, and TV-Cable concerns.  Each of these categories has two competitions, for large and small company Web sites.  In the newspaper category, the cutoff between large and small Web sites is one million unique monthly users.  The TV-Cable category is split between network and local affiliate Web sites. The magazine category is split between national magazines and regional/local magazines. An EPpy™ will also be awarded to the best Community/Suburban Newspaper Web site.

EPpys™ will be given to both large (more than one million unique monthly users) and small (fewer than one million unique monthly users) media-affiliated Web sites in the following categories:

Best Social Networking Implementation on a Media-Affiliated Web site
Best News Web Site
Best Sports Web Site
Best Business Web Site
Best Entertainment Web Site
Best Special Feature in a Web Site – News or Event
Best Special Feature in a Web Site -- Enterprise
Best Community Web Site
Best Overall Design of a Web Site
Best Use of Video in a Web Site
Best Classified Web site

In addition, the EPpy™ Awards will continue its tradition of honoring the best Web site sponsored by a College Newspaper.

The EPpy entry period is scheduled to close at midnight Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Contest fees are $150 per entry except in the College category, where each entry is $50.  There is no entry fee to nominate an individual for the Individual Achievement Award.

The judging of the EPpy™ Awards will be conducted by senior executives representing all the major media and with a special interest in Web sites.  Finalists in each of the categories will be announced in May, and the winners will be honored at the EPpy™ Awards Luncheon in Las Vegas.

The 2009 EPpy™ Awards drew close to 500 nominations from nearly 100 U.S. and international media outlets, Web-only services providers, college and universities.

For the thirteenth consecutive year, the awards program is being produced by Interactive Media Associates, Inc., of Parsippany, NJ (http://www.imediainc.com). Questions about the competition can be directed to Robert Kuwada at robert_kuwada@yahoo.com.
