March 16, 2010 - PRLog -- As with Patti and many gardeners, they prefer raised beds verses putting plants directly into the ground because it allows for complete control over the soil. A raised bed can either be contained within a wooden or stone structure, or can be soil that is piled 6 or more inches above ground. With a raised bed there is less strain on the back because you don't have to bend down as far to reach the plants. These raised beds are small enough to reach across to tend, and don’t usually exceed 20 feet in length. This design is perfect for ¼ inch Soaker Dripline and drip irrigation. The emitter spacing allows for the water to flow directly to the plants root zone, creating healthier plants. There will be less weeding since the dry areas are not watered and do not encourage weed seed germination. With an overhead sprinkler system, the entire area is wetted causing water loss to evaporation and run off.
