Meridian, Idaho – United States – Floridian Carrie Webster Martin was announced this morning as the newest Star Consultant for Idaho-based Scentsy Candles, last year’s winner of the prestigious “Rising Star” Award from the Direct Selling Association (DSA). Carrie will join a team of over 40,000 other independent Scentsy consultants currently active in North America, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The five year old Scentsy Candles sells wickless candles and gifts using internet marketing and home parties to promote their products.
“Scentsy Candles is happy to introduce the newest member of our independent consulting team, from the state of Florida, Carrie Webster Martin,” said a company spokesperson from the home office this morning. “As one of over forty thousand Scentsy Consultants in this hemisphere she will have our full support behind her, providing a web presence, marketing assistance, and the name recognition that we have earned in our industry after five years of hard work and dedication to marketing our products throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Guam.”
Scentsy Candles was first established in 2003 by Colette Gunnell and Kara Egan. In 2004, impressed by the wickless candle concept and convinced that there was something there, Orville Thompson and his wife Heidi purchased the company and moved central operations to their farm in Meridian, Idaho. They used home parties to direct sell their products and manufactured in a shipping container out back. The company has since grown into one of the most successful direct sales programs in North America.
“Our goal was to go directly to the people with our products,” said a company spokesperson. “Home parties had been done for other industries for years. Everyone has had experience with Tupperware or jewelry parties. We brought wickless candles to the living rooms of America in much the same way. Now, with a formidable internet presence and a brand name known everywhere, we are able to provide our consultants, ordinary people like Carrie Webster Martin, the support they need to be successful.”
According to a recent report published by About.com, direct selling is currently a thirty billion dollar industry and in the top five for best new business ventures. The Direct Selling Association (DSA), which awarded Scentsy the Rising Star Award in June 2009, is celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2010.
