Low Level Light Therapy

March 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Dolan Family Chiropractic, local chiropractors in the Aurora/Naperville, IL area, announces the arrival of new low level laser technology for treatment of back pain, neck pain, headaches, arthritis pain, and sports injuries.  The new Dynatronics Solaris light therapy system uses a 1,000 mW Superluminous Diode applicator with a wavelength of 880 nm.  The therapy is delivered using either a hand held light probe for a more concentrated and localized treatment, or a larger light pad that can cover larger areas and can be wrapped around injured parts of the arm or leg.   This therapy is ideal for treatment of sports injuries but is exceptional in the treatment of a wide variety of aches and pains including neck and low back pain, rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, peripheral neuropathy, bursitis, tendonitis, hip pain, disc injuries, shin splints, arthritis pain, and plantar fasciitis to name a few.  
    The Solaris system’s light therapy has a number of benefits that help accelerate the healing process and relieve pain faster than conventional treatments alone.  It increases circulation to injured areas by increasing the formation of new capillaries which speed up the healing process by carrying more oxygen and nutrients in and removing waste products such as lactic acid from the area.  Light therapy stimulates the production of collagen which is essential to tissue repair.  It also stimulates the release of ATP.  ATP, or adenosine triphosphate, is the major carrier of energy in our body.  Increasing ATP allows injured cells to accept nutrients and remove waste products faster, resulting in accelerated healing.  Light therapy also has a positive effect of the lymphatic system which has been found to play a larger role in the healing process then originally estimated.  The lymphatic system has a part in controlling edema, or swelling, in injured areas.  This swelling has a liquid portion that is controlled by the circulatory system and a protein component that is controlled by the lymphatic system.  Recent research has shown that light therapy can increase the diameter of both lymphatic and venous vessels which can double the rate of flow of both systems, resulting in faster draining of swollen areas.  Light therapy increases RNA and DNA synthesis which helps replace damaged cells faster.  It also reduces the excitability of nerves by bombarding irritated nervous tissue with negatively charged photons, causing the release of positively charged calcium molecules, resulting in a calming effect within the nerve.  The Solaris system stimulates fibroblastic activity which enhances the repair process and increases phagocytosis, which is the process by which specialized cells clean up dead or injured cells in order for proper healing to take place.  The combination of the above effects results in effective pain relief, faster healing times, and a stronger, more efficient end product.
