Sir Grout, a national tile and grout cleaning franchise, has released a revolutionary new application specifically designed to prevent costly slip-and-fall accidents. The grout and tile cleaning company, which has grown to 18 franchises in six states, recently expanded its services with the debut of Slip Armor, a proprietary non-slip solution that renders almost all floor surfaces slip-resistant when wet.
"Responding to the need to prevent slips and falls, we saw a huge need in what our customers were seeking," said Sir Grout Co-Founder and National Franchisor Tom Lindberg.
Slip Armor, which dries in about 20 minutes, is applied by the firm's professional technicians and lasts approximately five years. It is different from other non-slip applications in that it does not alter a floor's look and goes into action only when the surface becomes wet, Lindberg said.
"That's a beautiful thing because people don't want to change the appearance of their floors," he said, adding that the fluid works well on various surfaces such a ceramic, concrete and polished stone as well as bath tubs and shower stalls." All these surfaces are extremely slippery, especially when wet."
According to public data surveys, over one million people in the United States experience a significant slip, trip, or fall each year. Slips and falls are the number two cause of accident death and disability, following behind automobile accidents. Slip and falls are the single most common reason for visits to the emergency room. The average cost of a slip and fall injury is $28,000, including medical bills, physical therapy, and missed wages. Slips and falls lead to 104 million lost workdays per year in North America. Slip and fall accidents kill more workers than all other on-the-job fatalities combined. Fifty-five percent of those over 40 have suffered a debilitating slip and fall accident during their lifetimes.
Slip Armor™ works on a microscopic level that is undetectable to the naked eye. When applied to mineral based surfaces such as ceramic, porcelain, stone and concrete, Slip Armor creates what can best be described as an invisible tread. Similar to a tire tread,
when a treated surface becomes wet, the liquid disburses into the invisible tread eliminating the hydroplane effect which causes slipping.
Slip Armor™ has both residential and commercial uses. For residential consumers, the more popular applications would be bathtubs and showers, kitchens, foyers, bathroom floors, pools, polished walkways, and garage floors. Commercial uses encompass showers & locker rooms, entryways and hallways, restaurants, and commercial kitchens.
The added service of non-slip application makes Sir Grout a comprehensive tile and grout cleaning service that are now positioning themselves as flooring “specialists.”
“Restoration and cleaning will always be the staple of this industry, however, we now have the ability to not only aesthetically beautify a customer’s home, but inherently make it safer. Children and senior citizens will statistically benefit the most from our non-slip solution, but as the statistics reveal, the product is for everyone. And for businesses, it makes tremendous sense as a liability and safety advantage,” said Lindberg.
