Chickasaw Community Safe Room Ground Breaking Set Mar. 29

Through grant funding, the city of Chickasaw, Alabama, will build an emergency shelter by Spring 2011 for its first responders, the elderly and disabled citizens who are not able to leave the city during disasters.

March 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Chickasaw.  The City of Chickasaw Mayor Byron Pittman today announced that Monday, March 29, at 10 a.m. is scheduled for the ground-breaking ceremonies for the city’s new community safe room to be built at 799 Iroquois Street.  Key governmental officials, business and community leaders will be in attendance.  All citizens and interested persons are invited to attend the ceremonies.

The city was awarded funding in October 2009 through FEMA to build a $1.2 million emergency shelter that will house first responders, elderly and disabled citizens who are not able to evacuate the area during emergency situations.

"We are very happy to be able to provide emergency shelter for our elderly and disabled citizens, as well as our first responders," said Mayor Byron Pittman.
