San Diego IndieFest invites youngest award-winning film critic Perry Chen to speak and host

The 2010 San Diego IndieFest organizers have invited the youngest award-winning film critic, Annie Awards presenter & radio talk show host, 4th grader Perry Chen to speak and interview filmmakers on March 26 and 27.
 
March 18, 2010 - PRLog -- The annual San Diego IndieFest organizers have invited the youngest award-winning film critic, Annie Awards presenter & radio talk show host, 4th grader Perry Chen to interview filmmakers at its film festival portion on March 27, 2010.  Perry will also speak at the industry mixer on March 26.

"I am delighted to invite Perry Chen, the youngest film critic and radio talk show, to speak at and perform on camera interviews during the 2010 San Diego IndieFest," said Craig Wilson from Mental Eclectic and San Diego IndieFest's film festival co-producer, "We hope to attract more children and their families to attend our festival which celebrates independent film and music. We will have many animated shorts and documentary films at the festival.  Perry is an ideal spokesperson for education and entertainment through films.  We look forward to working with Perry on our upcoming web series collaboration."

About the event: San Diego IndieFest was founded in 2004 and is a project of RESULTS. San Diego IndieFest showcases independent films and music, and enriches the diversity and culture that make our communities unique by celebrating independent music, art, business, and thought, thereby creating positive change in our city and beyond. This year, the festival features 55 shorts and feature films, and many music acts on seven stages. The festival will be held in North Park area.

About Perry Chen:
Perry Chen started writing movie reviews of G and PG-rated films in November 2008 when he was an 8-year-old third grader at the San Diego Del Mar Union School district’s Torrey Hills School.  He is the host of “Perry Previews the Movies” on wsRadio, the worldwide leader in internet talk radio.  Perry reviews movies on KUSI and Fox 5 San Diego regularly, and was a guest on other radio talk shows.  Perry's reviews have appeared on nine San Diego newspapers.

Perry won an “Excellent Writer Award” given by “We Chinese in America” newspaper and magazine on January 17, 2010 for his movie review column.  Perry’s unique starfish rating system is child-friendly and popular with families. The highest rating is five starfish.  Perry's movie reviews are well-known for the insight from a child's perspective, lively description, sense of humor, and summary of moral at the end.  

Perry became a national sensation after appearing on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric in 2009.  He has been extensively featured on regional, national, and international media, including Fox, NBC 7/39, ABC 10 News, KUSI, KFMB CBS 8, Roots Up Radio, The Big Biz Show, Art Rocks! Radio, San Diego Union Tribune, San Diego News Network, San Diego Magazine, San Diego Family, World Journal, The China Press, and more.

Perry is also an award-winning artist.  He won an award for his painting at the 14th annual San Diego International Music & Art Festival on January 24, 2010, and another award for "Outstanding Creativity" for his art show at the San Diego City Hall in October 2009.  

Perry will perform tin-foil dragon sculpting and magic act at the "San Diego's Got Talent" fund-raiser on March 25 to raise funding for Asian American Journalist Association (AAJA) of which he is the youngest member.

Perry is also invited to attend the press junket of DreamWorks upcoming animation "How to Train Your Dragon" in Los Angeles on March 20 as the youngest credentialed media, and be interviewed LIVE on March 26 on San Diego's KUSI TV channel 9 to review the film on its opening day.  Perry's interview of directors Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders, as well as voice talents will be shown on his KUSI interview.
