Taking good care of discus fish starts with providing them with the right aquarium size. This type of fish has to be kept in deep tanks because of their size. Usually, discus fish grows up to six to seven inches and they prefer to be in shoal of at least six. Aquariums should have plants or bog wood, so that they will feel safer and there is somewhere to hide in case your discus fish are frightened. Bare tanks will make them easier to get stressed and can possibly hurt themselves from dashing around in the tank.

Another important discus fish care tip is making sure to keep the aquarium water clean and free of chlorine and heavy metals. It might be ideal to invest in a water purifying unit in order to make it easier for you to keep your tank clean. Make it a point to keep the aquarium water slow moving and filtered and the temperature should be between 82-86F.

If in case you decide to add some other fish with your discus, it is highly recommended to add catfish, plecs, or small tetras from South America (neon tetras) compared to other types of fish. However, bear in mind that whichever fish mate you choose to add, make sure that your discus fish is the largest one in the tank.

Lastly on how to keep discus fish tip is about feeding them. Discus fish can be fed most aquarium foods, such as frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp. Make sure you feed adult discus once a day and young discus fish three times a day.
