According to the American Heart Association stroke is the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States. To counteract this and promote a healthy life, volunteers from the Way to Happiness Foundation joined thousands of people at the Glendale Downtown Dash to run for the cause against stroke down Brand Blvd through the Americana and back up again. This event was organized by the Glendale Adventist Medical center in partnership with the Glendale Merchants Association.
Daniel Gielman and his team from The Way to Happiness Foundation decided to set a good example by running at this event following precept number one from the Way to Happiness: “Take care of yourself”. This book is a moral code based on common sense which contains twenty-one basic principles (called precepts) that can guide anyone to a better quality of life.
Gielman came out in second place, just 17 seconds behind the first place winner, Leonel Avalos and won an additional medal for being 1st place in his age category.
"I ran the Glendale Dash this morning somewhat spontaneously and ended up in second place. I had a desire to run it because I live in Glendale and because it was a chance to support such an important cause as that of the Glendale Adventist Medical Center to fight stroke, especially considering that stroke is the 2nd cause of death in the San Fernando Valley. Running is definitely a worthwhile activity for me and I wanted to let others know that it is a healthy and fun activity to do”, said Gielman.
The Way to Happiness Foundation International was established in 1984 with the mission of reversing the moral decay in society by restoring trust and honesty in the world through the publication and widespread distribution of The Way to Happiness. Since this book was first published in 1981 over 80 million of copies of this book have been distributed in 94 languages in 154 countries inspiring a movement towards a more happy life.
