Nobody said, "hey, get off the car," to fashion designer Craig Signer as he leaned against one of Chrysler's latest models in an exclusive YouTube video for Fashion Miami presented by the famed auto maker following his SRO runway fashion show.
Staged in a 35,000 square foot temporary structure in the heart of the Miami Design District., Signer showed highlights from his eponymous luxury fashion line for Fall/Winter '10 employing an army of 20 top runway marching models from the Miami leading agency Front Management. Strutting the catwalk to the delight of dozens of photographers from around the world waiting at the endless runway ready to shoot, the first girl appeared opening the show to the great Dame Shirley Bassey singing out "Lets Get This Party Started."
Catching his breath after the finale, Signer made his own half way down the runway marked by loud appreciative applause in recognition and admiration, greeted press, buyers and friends backstage there with fashion kisses on both cheeks, and then made his way out to the the waiting Chrysler for his You Tube video exclusive.
Acknowledging the show as a 'great experience,' Signer began his interview by listing every woman's 'must haves' in their closet for Fall/Winter '10. "A great jacket is key," began the designer, adding that "you can dress it up of down depending on the occasion." Next a "great dress in black or white, and equal greats for "your skirts, blouses and of course shoes."
The designer admits he draws his inspiration from his very customers and that his signature look is for "classic party people that can have a little bit of 'red carpet' excitement and some rock star in them, all the while just being really outstanding."
Although Signer never went to drawing school for fashion design, he says he "basically always appreciated fashion and always wanted to work in it." Having gotten his start living in Paris learning about the intricate details of textile design, he always wanted to translate the knowledge into garments and first did so working initially with Parisian socialites.
And who would Craig Signer most like to dress for the red carpet? None other than Angelina Jolie who he gives a big shout out for her personal style and incredible taste.
Craig Signer is available at Saks Fifth Avenue nationally, and opening this April, his first showroom in Bay Harbor, one block west of The Bal Harbor Shops in Miami.
