Salisbury Indians. Dover Orioles. Parksley Spuds. These were the names of some of the professional class “D” baseball teams that graced the Eastern Shore from 1922 to 1949.
Over the years, there has been little written about the Eastern Shore League (ESHL). In a new book by Arcadia Publishing, local baseball author and baseball enthusiast uses over 200 vintage photographs to document the passionate history of the league.
The author hopes the book will “play a large role in helping promote the history of the ESHL for future generations to learn and enjoy.”
Highlights of Eastern Shore League:
•Features never before seen vintage photographs from private collections
•Reveals early images of Frank "Home Run" Baker and Jimmie Foxx, both destined for enshrinement in the National Baseball Hall of Fame
•Contains snapshots of ESHL artifacts, such as programs, schedules, record books, tickets, hats, and the Eastern Shore League News newsletter
•Includes other prominent players from the league: Don Zimmer, Paul Richards, Ducky Detweiler and Joe Muir
