Cortoss is the first alternative to polymethylmethacrlyate (PMMA) cement. PMMA has historically been used to affix orthopedic implants and is primarily meant to fill the spaces between the prosthesis and the patient’s bone. Cortoss was specifically designed for use in the vertebral body to restore its mechanical conditions, match the properties of natural bone, and set quickly to create a load bearing implant more in line with the mechanical properties of cortical bone.
