Houston resident Landon Fears is hoping to avoid eviction from his apartment, and fulfill a wish of earning $1 million, by selling advertising in the form of wishes on his website.
The 29-year-old entrepreneur and web developer created ChanceTheGenie.com as a way to raise money after seeing his web marketing business dissolve, followed by an unsuccessful job search. The resulting troubles led to seeing his debt soar, and a March 25th deadline to make his rent payment. "In these tough economic times, I feel pushed to do something unique just to survive," Fears said.
The website is named after a character Fears created years ago after receiving advice to wish for big things. "Someone once told me to dream big, even if it seems impossible, which led to the creation of Chance the Genie and the million dollar wish," explained Fears.
Fears is attempting to advertise 10,000 wishes of individuals and businesses, at $100 each, which will be displayed permanently. He also is broadcasting the wishes as they come on the live streaming video site Ustream TV.
Fears believes his idea of "wish advertising"
Since his website launched 8 days ago, he hasn’t raised any money, but received many messages from people willing to do what they can to share his story. If Fears does hit his mark of $1 million, he plans to give some of his earnings to charity, in addition to paying off his debt.
