Scenario Development – a firm known for developing multistakeholder
scenarios – is launching a groundbreaking project looking at the future of
Rwanda. An advisory Panel of distinguished individuals has been assembled
to provide insightful guidance on this process. Panel Members include:
• Andrea Bohnstedt, Publisher, Ratio Magazine, Kenya
• Carolyn Hayman, OBE, CEO, Peace Direct, UK
• Karl Boyce, CEO, Eco-Positive, UK
• Lucy Mathieson, Programme Manager CREA, India; co-author of the
Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative report on Rwanda
• Maximilien Usengumuremyi, Ministry of Finance and Economic
Planning, Republic of Rwanda
• Peter Guest, Editor of "This is Africa" magazine at the Financial Times
Ltd, UK
• Steinar Sundvoll, Norwegian honorary consul to Rwanda,
representative of Norwegian People's Aid, Republic of Rwanda
The study is being conducted by Scenario Development and will explore the
underlying trends and drivers that could shape the country over the next
twenty years. The aim is to develop a range of scenarios for how Rwanda, its
politics, environment, people and economics might live in the future; what
challenges and opportunities could develop, and how Rwanda's future may
be inter-linked with the East African Community, and Africa more widely.
These insights will shape new thinking on development, business practices
investments and human rights issues.
It is a crucial moment in time to be conducting this exercise. Investments are
growing in Rwanda, the country has recently joined the Commonwealth, a
Rwandan national leads the African Development Bank, and Rwanda will
hold presidential elections in August this year.
This scenario building exercise will be conducted in an open and inclusive
manner; all relevant stakeholders will be invited to participate and contribute.
The final product will become a public document and a public record of the
workshops, analysis, research and the insights of the scenarios.
