Towards global leadership in online education information:
In its nine years of existence, the company has managed to become the fourth most visited site in Spain, behind Softonic – which also belongs to Grupo Intercom- and two newspapers, elmundo.es and marca.com.
Emagister opened in the U.S. market in September 2009 and in India in January 2010. "We are able to accelerate our pace of growth with a clear internationalization goal," says Joaquim Falgueras, CEO of the company.
The emagister.com site registered its record high in September with over 16 million unique users. The goal is to continue that growth in 2011 to 18 million unique users, thanks to the launch of additional markets such as the US.
Emagister set off to conquer the foreign market in 2006 with the launch of websites in Italy and Mexico. Now the portal is also available in France, Argentina, Britain, Germany, Chile, Colombia, India, and the United States. This diversity is reflected in the company headquarters in Barcelona, Spain, where one hundred people from over twenty nationalities work.
The reach of the company has now been expanded with four American professionals who have come to Barcelona to join the team responsible for launching the US website. "In size, this is currently our biggest project," explains Falgueras, who faces the challenge with optimism. To streamline the process in the United States, Emagister has is working with a data center in Silicon Valley, but maintains all operations from the home office in Spain. "We count on a centralized business model, which allows us to have a global team that can be shared by different countries," says Falgueras, who points out that in the coming months it will be necessary to open an office in the U.S. for “sales and customer support."
