American Express Collects 9 Tons Of Food For Needy Children

Company honored with ChildsLife Award for helping children in Eastern Europe
 
March 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Haarlem, The Netherlands – Thousands of children living in poverty in Eastern Europe need help if they are to grow up healthy and strong. The generosity of American Express Services Europe, Ltd., is paving the way for them to have healthy meals, and was recently recognized with the 2009 ChildsLife Yearly Appreciation Award.

“We selected the American Express Company to receive the 2009 Award because of the enthusiastic and dedicated way its management and employees have helped the lives of children by holding their yearly Food Rally,” said Patricia Korver-Kicak, Executive Director of ChildsLife International.

”They have collected more than 9 tons of food from supermarket customers to help feed hungry children. Their generosity  has made an important contribution to the ChildsLife distribution program in Eastern Europe,” said Korver-Kicak. The nonprofit organization impacts more than 16,000 children every month in Eastern Europe and Africa.

Jean-Luc Nocart, Vice President, Country Manager Benelux of American Express, received the Award from ChildsLife International at a recent ceremony. “I find it important that a business makes an effort to encourage its employees to take initiatives for charities. Particularly in this economic times, I see it as important to keep active in our social responsibility.” Mr Nocart stated.

With this annual Award, ChildsLife recognizes individuals and organizations that have provided exceptional support of ChildsLife’s work to improve the lives of poor and disadvantaged children around the world. The inspiring words of Sir Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” are inscribed on the award.
