The Enid Enforcers semi-pro football team defeated the Arkansas Lions 24-0 on Saturday. Rather than give you the standard blow by blow recap of a game, I’m going to do something a bit different. I’m going to tell you what my experience was at the game.
The game featured wonderful but slightly windy weather, horrible calls from referees, and even some moments of good football. Don’t get me wrong, some of these guys can flat out play football. Some can not. Particularly the ones from Arkansas. Let me say this in the nicest way I can. The Arkansas team was outplayed in virtually every facet of the game. Perhaps that is why the Enforcers won 24-0.
For a sports fan, it was a great feeling to be sitting in football stands watching a football game in March. I know this is blasphemy for some, but football is America’s sport. For the life of me, I don’t know why a spring football league has never been successful on the national stage. The people in Enid have something real special. A football team to root for in March, April, and May. The people of Enid and even the surrounding area should get out and support the Enforcers. There was a decent crowd on the North side of D. Bruce Selby Stadium this week, but I can not help but think of what it would be like if more people got out to support them. The men who play in this game do not have delusions of grandeur. They do not play the game for money or reward. They play the game because they love the game. You can see it in their eyes and the way they carry themselves on the field.
I challenge everyone who reads this article to attend the next home game to see what I am talking about. I also invite you to view the photo gallery of pictures from the game. If anyone has any pictures they’d like to submit, they can send them in and they will be added to the gallery.
Until next time,
Max Haley
