Remember back in February when Nintendo DS flash cards were deemed illegal?Well, according to reports, Nintendo is taking further action against the import of the popular R4 flash cards with custom officers seizing the products as they reach Australian shores. In an official press release from Nintendo Australia earlier today, the company stated, "Nintendo confirms that the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service have seized game copiers (commonly referred to as R4 cards) and other counterfeit Nintendo products from an importer attempting to distribute the products in Australia. This is the first Australian customs seizure of game copiers of this type."
The R4-branded flash card is a popular device that when inserted into the Nintendo DS cartridge slot, allows the use of homebrew applications alongside the ability to play illegally downloaded DS games. With the continued crackdown on such unofficial Nintendo DS "game copiers", it seems Nintendo Australia is getting serious at the piracy issue that has plagued the DS for years.
