When it comes to your personal finances one of the most important players is your accountant. Accounting is an important part for everyone’s personal business because if you want all the financial transaction records so accounting can assist to keeping all the financial transaction records.

Now that we understand the importance of a finding a great accountant, what are the steps that you need to take to find a great accountant.

In order to find an accountant it is important to set out a checklist of what you are looking for from your accountant. Once you establish your checklist it is a simple as contacting some accounting firms and ask your questions.

We have set out 6 importance questions to ask your accountant:

Question 1 -  What qualifications and accreditation do they have?

This may come as a shock to many people but anyone can call themselves and accountant, so you should be looking for an accountant that has official accreditation. To Find that expert visit http://www.taxauckland.co.nz

Question 2-It is important to speak to some current clients, ask your accountant for a couple of names?

Always make sure that you ask your accountant if you can speak directly to any current clients. When you speak to this Client, you want to know things like how reliable, prompt and proactive your potential Accountant has been; whether they explain things clearly, seem good value for money, and have produced any good ideas. Keep in mind though; you are only likely to get the names of friendly Clients! Also it is very important to see how long they have been with the accounting firm for.

Question 3 – Will I have someone managing my account?

Make sure you meet the person who will be dealing with your work. It is important to ensure that you can establish a good working relationship, as you will be in contact with them regularly.  You should have your accountant active before the end of the tax year so that you can make any relevant investments prior to the tax year closing

Question 4 – Is it okay to come and have a look at the offices?

Looking at the office is important to help you ascertain the quality, nature and scope of the Accountant's practice. Be wary of an Accountant working from serviced offices or their offices are very run-down. Then again, you should enquire closely about the fees of someone with conspicuously lavish premises! Also if accountants are working from home, this should raise some caution.

Question 5 – So how long the business has been operating for?

Unless your affairs are very simple, you need someone with experience. Don't just take their word for it; make sure you ask for evidence. Most accounting firms will have the business registration in the office so make sure you see when the business was started.

Question 7 –Why should I use your accounting firm?

Ask the accountant straight out, why should I use your firm. When it comes to reasons why to use an accounting firm your accountant should give you some solid reasons why to use their accounting firm.

Having a well structured checklist will certainly help you find a better accountant and hopefully improve your tax refund.
