Since taking over Bolehill Peak District Cottages a number of years ago we have carried out a substantial level of work to reduce the environmental footprint of our cottages and to generally make them more attractive and welcoming to guests.
Major work has included the removal of all night storage heaters, to be replaced by a highly efficient centrally manged central heating system. Individual cottages are now constantly monitored by a central computer system that ensures environmental policies are maintained throughout the year. Where necessary all external walls have now been 'dry lined'. This has taken a considerable level of effort due to the old nature of the walls and our desire not to spoil the character of the classic Peak district cottages. In all, three different techniques have been used in an attempt to retain their character but maximise on energy saving.
Other initiatives that have been put in place are:
- a program of changing lighting to more energy efficient lighting is just coming to completion.
- a strict set of environmental policies have been defined and guests encouraged participate in
- all external lighting is now on timer and light sensitive switches
- recycling has been introduced to assist guests in recycling waste products.
