USA and UK may have gone through the coldest winter in decades, but it seems snow, rain or shine, Ugg boots are at the top of everyone’s must-have footwear list. Whether you’re freezing in Scotland or sun-bathing in LA, you could be wearing the ubiquitous boots. According to statistics, sales of Ugg boots climbed in the cold winter months of late
In 2009 and first quarter of 2010, It’s been over five years since Ugg boots stomped their way into the fashion lovers’ hearts after Kate Moss first wore a pair in public. And yet, the market for Ugg boots just keeps growing.
We have entered a new decade but there are a few old favorites we’ll be dragging with us. So what is it about Ugg boots that makes them so enduring in all weathers? The footwear combines warmth, style and comfort – three things that are severely lacking for most fashion conscious women where ‘no pain no gain’ is the usual starting point for looking good. Unlike stilettos, Ugg boots allow women (and men of course) to look hip without the agony. With Hollywood stars like Brad Pitt and Sarah Jessica Parker often snapped in their Uggs, they will always be desirable by association.
And as Ugg boots proved in 2009 – they are recession proof – sales increased by 140% in the last six months of last year. Affordable luxuries are always in vogue; some say that Uggs are now even a staple in many people’s wardrobes. Ugg boots look like they’re going to continue to conquer the world, one step at a time, in 2010 and throughout the new decade. It isn’t just Hollywood stars who love Uggs, they’re also fitting out their children in the boots – Angelina Jolie was photographed recently with her eldest daughter kept snug in a pair of Ugg boots.
It seems Ugg boots have not only crossed continents, originating in Australia before being embraced by LA and then the UK – but they’re set to cross the generations too. Everyone from Rolling Stone’s Ronnie Wood to Suri Cruz seem smitten with the furry footwear.
