S.Ahalya of Sarangi has been awarded the ASSOCHAM-IMC WOMEN HERITAGE AWARD 2010 for the role in the promotion of Kanjivaram silk saris.The award was presented by Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and Smt. Swati Piramal, president, Assocham on 23 February, 2010 at a ceremony held at The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi. Also, present on the occasion were Pratibha Advani, Diya Kumari, Kavita Bhartia, Sara Pilot, Supriya Sule, Sheetal Ansal and others.
The Women Heritage Award has been instituted jointly by ASSOCHAM and Indian Merchants’ Chamber Ladies’ Wing to applaud the efforts of women entrepreneurs. The award ceremony coincided with Women Entrepreneurs 2010 exhibition. The highlight of the exhibition was the presence of the heritage women weavers who through their passion, talent and perseverance have strived to keep Indian tradition alive, despite many challenges.
“Women can harness their talent in all areas and should take to entrepreneurship to become independent. The chamber will support the efforts of women artisans,” said Smt. Swati Piramal.

space where they could browse at their leisure, in a relaxing environment.”
