HELOTES, TX— Elementary schools do their best to prepare fifth and sixth graders for middle school, but for some students, it’s simply not enough.
“My kids always answered that school was okay when I asked how their day went,” says Esther Locascio, debut author of The Haunting, Ebram’s Story: Book 1. “But when one showed up with school pictures ripped on the bus ride home, and another didn’t want to go back only two days into the school year, I knew I had to dig a little deeper to find out what was really going on.”
What she finds is that middle schools can be intimidating, regardless of initiatives implemented by school officials to facilitate the transition. The author turns her knowledge and experience into a mesmerizing fictional tale that weaves the uncertainties of middle school life haunting an eleven-year-
In "The Haunting", new kid Ebram Casas-Treski enters middle school where he finds loneliness, isolation, and bullies are only the beginning of his problem. Strange voices inside his siblings’ heads? His grandfather’
Esther Locascio entertains and inspires readers in this powerfully written multi-cultural, coming-of-age story intertwined with universal themes that things aren’t always what they seem and people can be different yet still alike in many ways. Through Ebram’s initiation of a volunteer project to improve his middle school in a way that allows the students to hang onto their childhood a little longer, the author delivers an important message that true meaning in life comes from serving others instead of ourselves. In the last chapter, she challenges us to incorporate this idea into our own daily lives by introducing the Giftigami Box, an origami-like craft meant to contain either money for charitable causes or strips of paper which record good deeds.
The author shows us that students will feel secure in a middle school environment when those in need are served by others on a personal level in or out of school.
Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, the book is available through bookstores nationwide, from the publisher at www.tatepublishing.com/
