Tourism business firms in North East England are pioneering green tourism that is all about exploring the advantages offered by practices that are eco-friendly as well as tending to become more appealing to environmental awareness. In the process they would claim a larger share of the GBP 4 billion tourism industry of North East England.
Pure Profit 2010 is a conference that is being held in the city of Durham on 18 March to demonstrate how environment friendly practices could prove more profitable, marketable and sustainable for businesses. As a matter of fact, the official tourism agency of the region, Visit County Durham is delivering the conference sponsored by Natural England on behalf of One North East.
According to One North East's business performance co-ordinator Janet Cummings, an increased number of consumers were currently aware of environmental facts and were striving to cut down their carbon footprint at any possible time even during a holiday, which has led many business men choose short domestic breaks in place of expensive overseas trips.
Cummings added that it was important for North East England as this tourist trend was growing to help the region be renowned in the country as one that offered an experience of greater quality, green and ethics to the visitors.
It has been reported that in the United Kingdom tourism was the fifth largest industry worth GBP 4 billion to the annual economy of the region, besides sustaining more than sixty thousand jobs. It has also been claimed that a good number of businesses based on North East tourism were already benefiting from going green.
Meanwhile, a car rental company operating in the United Kingdom; Car-Hire-UK has complimented the green tourism campaign launched by the tourism industry of North East England.
