Dysport is a simple, effective, non-surgical treatment that works just like Botox by relaxing facial muscles on the forehead, and therefore reducing and smoothing away frown-lines and wrinkles. Dysport consists of the same basic ingredient as Botox which is Botulinum Toxin A, and is injected in the same way as Botox. Both work by temporarily immobilizing muscles, which reduces lines and furrows. That being said how is Dysport different from Botox and does it have more advantages?
Dysport has fewer proteins surrounding the toxin and so should stimulate a weaker immune response to break down the toxin. Clinically this means that Dysport will result in the formation of fewer antibodies against it. Antibodies are what our bodies use to detect and destroy foreign proteins aka antigens (the injected medications)
Dysport is supported by over a decade of clinical studies and experience, and was developed in the United Kingdom in the early 1990s to successfully treat a number of neurological and ophthalmic conditions. Since that time, with an increased understanding of the uses of Dysport, thousands of treatments have been safely and effectively performed for a variety of conditions ranging from frown lines to axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating under the armpits). Dysport is slightly cheaper than Botox, with the cost per bottle about 5-10% less, and therefore Dysport might be a better choice for those patients who are concerned about the costs. Overall, since both injectables aren't permanent, with treatment results estimated to last around 3-6 months, wrinkle removal patients may want to try out both treatments to see if they prefer one over the other.
