Apps for women are in greater demand this month, following Louis Vuitton's announcement that their Autumn Winter 2010-2011 collection will be broadcast live and exclusively on Facebook. This is the first time a luxury goods producer will have a collection streamed live on a social networking site, and it has caused quite a stir for fans who want more accessibility to the market via their mobile phones.
“A fashion show usually caters to the 1000 happy few who are invited.” Says Louis Vuitton's Communications Director Antoine Arnault, “This time, we were able to send over 700,000 invitations!”
“50% of our population is female, yet apps for women are seldom advertised that way” says Lorraine Gordon, CEO of AppsforWomen.net “we're aiming to put all the iPhone apps women want on one easy-access site, so that the audience can experience events like the Louis Vuitton show as quickly as possible.”
AppsforWomen.net launched at the start of 2010 and began immediately compiling the most useful and interesting apps for girls that are available to download. The site reviews each app, highlighting its best features. One example of the iPhone apps women might be interested in is the Baby Names app, which gives details of a name's origin, meaning and popularity, along with email and tweeting options.
It's expected that other fashion houses and designers will follow in Louis Vuitton's footsteps, and more apps for women will emerge from this pioneering step. With apps to alert women when they are at their most fertile, and others specialising in women's exercises, it seems smartphone software developers are looking to integrate technology into every part of female daily life.
