LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – On April 6, the Arkansas 4-H Foundation will present its inaugural “Celebration of Excellence” award to former Sen. David Pryor and his son, current Sen. Mark Pryor, for their decades of dedicated public service to the state.
David Pryor, former Governor of Arkansas, represented the state in both the House and the Senate. He was also named interim chairman of the state Democratic Party following the death of Bill Gwatney in 2008. Sen. Mark Pryor served as Attorney General, and has also served in both the House and Senate. Currently in his second U.S. Senate term, he serves on six Senate committees, including the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Both father and son have served the state following the maxim “Arkansas comes first,” having said that it only seems fitting that these two individuals be the first recipients of this award. “The 4-H program is about leadership and few understand that better than former Sen. David Pryor,” said Dr. Brad Davis, Arkansas 4-H Foundation Executive Director. ‘During his term as governor he was instrumental in supporting the construction of the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center.”
The award recognizes those who epitomize distinguished leadership or public service to the state. Recipients need not be a political figure to be honored and in the future it is expected that recipients will be from every walk of life.
The honorees will receive their award on April 6th at a fundraiser at the Peabody Ballroom. Currently, the state 4-H program has over 9,000 volunteers and more than 130,000 4-H’ers.
