Job Forecasts Look Bright in Year of the Tiger

50% more companies hiring for January this year compared to 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 09, 2010 -
SINGAPORE, 9th March 2010 – The current job market is set to boom in subsequent months especially after the Lunar New Year festive period. According to statistics taken from JobsDB.com, there was a 50% increase in the number of companies hiring in January this year as compared to January 2009.

Although this period sees a large increase of job hunters with fresh graduates from Universities and Polytechnics seeking new opportunities and jobseekers looking for greener pastures after receiving their bonuses, this year’s mood seems different from last year according to Mr Steven Seek, Managing Director of JobsDB.com.

“During last year’s recession, the motivation for jobs was based on meeting basic needs and getting a stable stream of income. With the economy emerging stronger this year, people are more inclined to apply for jobs that they are more passionate about and also jobs which can provide higher salaries as well,” said Mr Seek.

Job Opportunities in 2010

With the world economy showing positive signs of growth in the first quarter of 2010 and new projects being launched in Singapore this year such as the opening of the new Integrated Resorts, many companies in the banking, F&B, IT and retail sector are expanding and looking for fresh talent.

One example is DBS Bank, a Diamond sponsor at the upcoming JobsDB.com Career Expo in March. “Investing in people and talent is in line with our belief that Asia's rising economic power and influence in the global arena will continue to strengthen, and that the accompanying shift in wealth and economic activity will create significant opportunities for an Asian bank like DBS,” said Ms Samantha Mark, Head of Human Resources Singapore, DBS Bank Ltd

“To further deepen customer relationships and grow our client base in Asia, DBS intends to recruit talent to fill more than 500 positions, both new and existing, across the region in 2010. These will mainly be client-facing roles across a slew of businesses, including consumer banking, institutional banking (corporate & enterprise banking) and private banking," said Ms Mark.

Under the retail and F&B sector, there has been more than a 100% increase of exhibitors at the JobsDB.com Career Expo compared to last year with new exhibitors such as Aston Specialties Pte Ltd, Charles & Keith, Club 21 and RSH (Singapore) Pte Ltd on board.

This is testimony that organisations in the retail and F&B sector are set to expand this year and are thus also taking part in the JobsDB.com Career Expo to reach out to jobseekers.

Staying Productive

With productivity being the new buzzword in 2010, JobDB.com understands the need for workers to upgrade their skills by organising monthly career upgrading and networking events for the public at a nominal fee.

Besides helping jobseekers stay ahead in their job hunt by remaining relevant, these events also help them to easily adapt to the constantly changing work environment. Other recommended activities by Mr Seek which can help jobseekers proactive in their job hunt include attending job fairs such as the JobsDB.com Career Expo 2010, network with friends and business associates who can share job opportunities with them and by using both online and print mediums for job searches.

The JobsDB.com Career Expo 2010 will be held from 26th to 28th March 2010 at Suntec Singapore Halls 602 & 603, Level 6 from 10.00am to 7.00pm daily.
