NROC Heads to Florida for the Squiggy Classic Inline

March 9, 2010 - PRLog -- The 2010 National Roller Cup heads south this weekend for the first inline marathon of the North American racing season: the Squiggy Classic Inline in Tampa, FL.

The race draws many of the region's top inline skaters along with scores of fitness enthusiasts.

Powerslide's Jorge Botero, a world champion from Colombia, won last year's race on his way to winning the 2009 National Roller Cup (NROC).

His teammate Briana Kramer of Tampa won the open women's division while Bont's Debbie Rice of Palmetto won the women's master division.

Teams from Powerslide, Bont, Simmons, Asphalt Beach and Rainbo are expected to line up for the marathon, which starts at 9 a.m. Sunday in Flatwoods Park in Thonotosassa.

The Squiggy Classic boasts a full weekend of skating, starting at 7 p.m. Friday with the Pajama Skate in the Dark.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, skate teams will compete against each other in a 7-mile time trial.

From 3-5 p.m. Saturday, vendors will show off their latest wares at a skate expo at the Wingate Hotel, 17301 Dona Michelle Drive, Tampa.

Skaters in the full marathon will race four laps (one shortened) around the park's 6.8-mile loop course.

A few minutes after the start of the marathon, skaters who prefer a shorter distance will head out for a half marathon.

NROC is a race series for professional and advanced inline skaters. This year, 19 events are part of the series, including two in Canada, three in New York, four in Indianapolis and the granddaddy of them all, the NorthShore Inline Marathon, which draws 3,500 skaters yearly to Duluth, MN.
