LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is a prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate or insufficient eyelashes that causes them to grow longer, fuller and darker. Its active ingredient, bimatoprost, is the main factor for creating and maintaining longer eyelashes. Although the precise mechanism of action is not known, research suggests that the growth of eyelashes occurs by increasing the percent of hairs in and during the anagen (or growth) phase. It has the capacity to increase the length, thickness and darken the color of eyelashes. Lashes can grow longer, thicker and darker because bimatoprost can prolong the anagen phase.
LATISSE® is easy to use, FDA approved and effective. It's a once-a-day treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes. When applied regularly on a daily basis, Latisse can result in the growth of significantly longer, fuller, darker upper eyelid lashes. Patients in a clinical trial saw results gradually over time (starting at 4 weeks with full results after 16 weeks), and about 80% of Latisse users report seeing a significant increase in the growth and fullness of their lashes.
Any individual who wants to experience fuller, thicker, darker upper lashes is a potential candidate for the Latisse program. However, there are some contraints for its use. Any individual on antibiotics or other drugs, with heart medication, as well as those with neurological and certain other diseases, and those with severe allergies should discuss these conditions prior to beginning the treatment program. In addition, pregnant women as well as those with skin infections or other conditions on the upper eyelids are not good candidates.
