RICHMOND, VA -- The Richmond Craft Mafia will present the fifth annual Spring Bada Bing: The Boss of All Craft Shows on Sunday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Plant Zero in South Richmond's Manchester Art District . The event will feature over 60 artists, selling their handmade wares varying from perfume to plush; recycled clothing to revamped jewelry, and everything in between.
Independent artists and designers from around the country will be in attendance, offering handcrafted wares and helping to educate shoppers about a movement known in crafty circles as the Do It Yourself, or DIY, movement. Fueled by the internet, the DIY movement is at the backbone of a growing craft culture, seeking to prove to Americans that high quality, everyday items are easily available at places other than the mall.
The movement is helping to propel Indie businesses across the country, like those owned by members of the RCM and Spring Bada Bing vendors, into viable options for making a living through ones craft. The RCM takes its tagline "rubbing out the mass produced" quite seriously; uniting with other modern crafters for events like Spring Bada-Bing & Handmade Holiday. Ultimately, the RCM hopes to propel Richmond, and the city's urban craft scene, to the front of this creative movement.
Plant Zero, located at 0 E. 4th Street ( Manchester ), Richmond , will host SBB this year, providing a larger venue for the event, which has been growing in size as the DIY movement continues to grow. Plant Zero offers artist studios, apartments, a café, and exhibition space for the local art community. The event space features an open floor plan and bright natural light. In addition, the building has ample free parking, making it the perfect new venue for SBB!
