By: Rachel Wiley Date: Saturday, March 13, 2010, 10am to 4pm Location: Downtown San Diego on 335 6th Ave in b/w J & K: www.culywarehouse.com The Live Well Project team wants to emphasize the importance of health and confidence to young women through a special day of fitness, health, and self-esteem boosting events. Our target group is 12-19 year old girls living in stressful life situations. The mission is to share how to take care for oneself physically and emotionally. Young girls throughout San Diego have been invited through various organizations, including Becky’s House, Monarch School, San Pasqual Academy, O’Farrell Community School for Advanced Academy, Hoover High School, Garfield High School, Chula Vista High School, Walden Family Services, San Diego Adoption Services, Shakti House, YMCA, Big Sisters, and The Jeanne McAlister Institute. Youth in stressful situations often turn to drugs, alcohol, smoking, eating disorders, and violence as an escape from what may seem like unchangeable and uncontrollable circumstances. We want to empower them with the knowledge and confidence they need to build strong lives for themselves. "I believe it only takes a spark. A glimpse of the benefits of health and an assurance that it can be achieved simply with adequate knowledge opens up doors: new friends, curiosity of more health education, easy and inexpensive cooking techniques, seeking out mentors, being challenged, new horizons and boundless opportunities." The day will include activities related to feeling beautiful on the inside and out, fitness, and healthy eating. Giveaways and prizes will include: clothing, grooming kits, manicure/pedicure, & hair styling gift certificates. We will create a fun and educational environment with talks/seminars on healthy eating and volunteer-lead exercise groups. Donations from nutritional, local fitness facilities, clothing and sporting companies will provide the guests with tangible memories of the day! To make the most out of this unique and special event, each young woman will be paired with a "mentor for the day," a local female entrepreneur, to question, confide in, and learn from. We hope to foster connections that will span beyond just this day, giving these girls knowledge and access to women who can inspire, educate and support them on their journey. Each participant must have a signed waiver to participate. Deadline for expressing interest is end of day on March 12, 2010. The Live Well Project is presented by Optimal Nutrition Inc, D Lux Events, LandMarK Events, and Olive PR Solutions. Sponsors include: Supervisor Ron Roberts, Time 2 Shine, Brigitte Taylor, Lady Luxe Hair Saloon, Corepower Yoga, Red Lotus Society, Mrowka, Popchips, Positive Adventures, Herr Photography, Hula Moves, Alphagraphics, DJ Kurty, Pretty Is, and Culy Warehouse.
