Astronaut’s Son Launches Campaign for State Representative

Jim Foreman, son of veteran NASA Astronaut Mike Foreman, is pursuing election to the position of Representative for District 29 in the Texas State Legislature.

March 8, 2010 - PRLog -- PEARLAND, TEXAS - Pearland resident Jim Foreman kicked off his campaign for State Representative over the weekend with a gathering hosted by his father, NASA Astronaut Mike Foreman, and mother, Lorrie Foreman. Foreman took the opportunity to emphasize his focus on employment. In a speech to attendees he stated, “Roughly one out of every ten Texans is without a job, and that is unacceptable. We will create jobs by bringing new industries to Texas with tax incentives and programs to educate our workforce.” Foreman’s speech also covered topics such as responsible State spending and holding colleges accountable for their spiraling tuition costs. Of the event, Foreman stated that attendance
“exceeded expectations,” adding “this shows the desire of our citizens for fresh ideas from government, and representation that is both honest and accountable to its citizens.”

Jim Foreman is a mechanical engineer and small business owner who intends to apply his problem-solving and management skills in Austin. “I built a successful business in the middle of a recession,” he said, “What we need in the Texas Legislature are more small business owners; men and women who know what it’s like to meet a payroll and know how to keep their organizations afloat during tough times.” Foreman’s company, Blue Smoke, was founded in 2008 to provide engineering and IT services to companies throughout Houston. Foreman joked that he is probably the only candidate for State Representative that built his own website.

Foreman also announced an aggressive plan to review the entire state budget to identify and eliminate excessive spending. “In the past ten years our state’s population has increased by 25%, while the state budget has nearly doubled,” he said. He emphasized the need for real results, rather than the “nickel and dime savings many politicians have offered in the past.”

According to his campaign website, PickJim.org, Foreman is a motorcycle enthusiast who spends his free time restoring his 1967 Pontiac Firebird. Jim’s wife, Lindsey, works at NASA’s Johnson Space Center and volunteers with a local Girl Scout troop. They have two dogs whom they adopted through the SPCA.
