Shaun White now that he has won gold says his next goal is to go to the White House and meet the President. This is focus that comes from mental training of Sports Psychology. "I'm free for dinner. I'm sure we could work something out," White said. No doubt he'll accomplish that, too.
Soaring into the sky and completing an astounding series of twists, turns, and flips, 23 year old American snowboarder Shaun White secured the gold medal in Vancouver. After barreling across the green finish line, White knew instantly that his performance ended in total victory. While waiting for the official score, the crowd roared, wildly waving American flags, and Shaun stepped out of his board, picked it up and gave it a little kiss as if to say "thanks" for carrying him through a flawless performance.
White said his goal was to "put on a show" and he did exactly that with his outstanding execution of moves called things like the Double McTwist 1260 and The Tomahawk. Once a spectator has seen the caliber of White's athletic performance, it's all too obvious how he accomplishes these aerial acrobatics with such apparent ease. Shaun White is focused. He's confident in his skill level and ability to perform, and he is focused. Teammate Scotty Lago called White one of the most "dedicated and focused" people he knows. When Shaun White straps on the board, he's "in the zone" and ready to go.
In the zone refers to the condition of the athlete's mind and their mental state of being before, during, and at the end of their competition or performance. They are passionate about their chosen sport or game. They are dedicated to maximum performance. They are motivated to achieve. They are focused on nothing but their game. They are confident that the end result will be success. They hold the absolute belief that they will win. The athlete who has trained their mind as well as their body sees nothing but a positive outcome.
The keys to a positive outcome and winning performance:
• DEDICATION
• PASSION
• MOTIVATION
• FOCUS
• CONFIDENCE
• SELF BELIEF
