Chennai, 29 September 2009: TRS Forms and Services established in the year 1999 is a leading ITES provider. The company provides solutions and products in the OMR (Optical Mark Reader) Scanner Technology. These scanners read the presence or absence of any mark made by a pencil or pen. This technology has been time tested and today has become synonym for MCQ exams. Innovative designs of the answer sheets and the introduction of Hybrid Scanners have helped make this technology one of the most reliable in test assessments and have eliminated the margin of error.
Over the past ten years the company has been focusing more on providing solutions than selling products. In the last two years the company strengthened in R&D by investing over 10% of its turnover into this field and started looking at product development and manufacturing.
Launch of e-numbering
In the last two years the company has strengthened its R&D department and has invested time and effort towards developing a new e-numbering scanner with the brand name as FireEye. This new scanner that is a first of its kind in India will revolutionize the marking system in universities where the system of dummy numbering is used for the subjective exams. The company has got into a strategic partnership with Longwind System in China to start manufacturing this product.
“Though 95% of all universities across the country follow the dummy numbering system penetration of automation in this field is still relatively low. But with more universities realizing the urgent need for fair and precise automated marking systems we are looking at the industry growth at 20% year on year. E-numbering will definitely help TRS triple our turnover by 2012”, said Mr. N. Subramanian, Managing Director, TRS Forms & Services (P) Ltd.
Failure of the current System
Currently dummy numbering is being done manually and then the top fly slip is sent for data entry. Even though this has been followed for so many years, due to increase in volume of students all the universities find it difficult to maintain confidentiality in this process. To retain the same system but introduce automation would be the best solution at this juncture. Hence the introduction of the eNumbering machine is highly relevant.
e-numbering:
Instead of manually doing the dummy numbering the heavy duty inkjet printer attached to the machine does the numbering on the first sheet of the answer booklet. This numbering process is controlled from the computer. Hence we can have the numbers printed at 2 or 3 locations on the same line. Also after the numbering is done the image of the first sheet is captured instantaneously. This image is then processed using an image processing software and the data like Register number, dummy number and other required details are captured and stored in a database. This completely avoids the data entry of such confidential data. Similarly using the same method the marks entered by the evaluator can also be captured individually and tallied with the total written on the sheet. Apart from avoiding data entry and operator related errors, this method will avoid transcribing error and totaling error as well.
