Characterizing the 1994 GOP Congressional take over of Congress as a Contract on, not with, America, Melinda Pillsbury-Foster, a long time activist and former Regent for the National Federation of Republican Women, launched a new website, http://www.honestybondusa.info Honesty Bond USA, in which the woman, mother of five, claims credit for the original idea for Contract With America. It started, Pillsbury-Foster said, “in February 1992 I wrote up the Liberty Pledge, printed some literature, had a banner made and took them with me to the next Republican Convention.”
Pillsbury-Foster accuses Gingrich of removing accountability from her proposal, which, “put teeth in the Liberty Pledge” and urged voters to demand accountability from the Congress elected this year by refusing to vote for candidates who are not bonded to comply with their demands “The constituents can step up to the plate on this,” Pillsbury-Foster said. “They can start their own local committee for honesty.” Pillsbury-Foster listed several issues which should be included. These were, ending the Federal Reserve, returning to sound money, and holding the government and corporate interests who have abused the system, accountable in courts of law and at the ballot box. She added that a full list of Honesty Bond USA's suggestions will soon be posted on the website.
Morgan Pillsbury, Pillsbury-Foster's oldest child, was the woman John Fund was arrested for battering in 2002. Linked on the site is an email sent by Gingrich to the woman in 2003. Closing her remarks Pillsbury-Foster said, “The power is in the hands of the people. All we need do it use it. Demand candidates take out surety bonds. We must enforce accountability ourselves.”
