San Antonio Texas April 2010— Together with Aveda Corporation, Minneapolis, MN, K. Charles & Co Salons and Aveda Institute San Antonio are holding a Walk For Water in honor of Earth Month, in support of organizations around the world working to protect access to clean water. Aveda Earth Month 2010 calls for strategic local and global action to protect local waterways, empower communities, and help make clean water accessible to everyone—everywhere. The goal is to raise $3.5 million during the month of April. All funds from the event will support our local Earth Month partner, Gulf Restoration Network.
AVEDA WALK FOR WATER
On April 11, 2010 K. Charles & Co, Aveda Institute San Antonio and the Aveda network will participate in a global initiative that acknowledges the daily struggle of the more than one billion people around the world who do not have access to clean water. The Aveda Walk for Water campaign:
• Unites the Company’s network and guests in a series of walks around the world to raise awareness, funds, and excitement of the need to protect clean water.
• Is executed locally by Aveda salons and spas.
• Will extend six kilometers—the average distance that women in developing countries walk to collect water each day.
The 6 kilometer Walk for Water (Sunday, April 11th) will take place at the Pearl Brewery development and along the Museum Reach of the Riverwalk. Participant registration begins at 10 AM in front of the Aveda Institute San Antonio, 250 E. Grayson St; the walk begins at 11 AM. Donation for participation is $50 for participants age 12 and older. All proceeds will be donated to their local Earth Month partner, the Gulf Restoration Network. www.healthygulf.org This is a family and pet-friendly event.
Guests can visit www.avedaearthmonth.org, which will feature a customized site for online donations.
LIGHT THE WAY™ EARTH MONTH CANDLE
In addition to Walk For Water, Aveda’s 2010 Earth Month campaign includes the launch of a limited edition Light the Way™ soy wax candle sold during the month of April. Featuring a stress-relieving aroma with certified organic French lavender, the candle is sold for Earth Month to raise funds and awareness for clean water rights across the globe. By purchasing the $12 candle, consumers can support Aveda’s global efforts to help make clean water accessible to all, and help raise $1.2 million if all candles are sold. Aveda will donate 100 percent of proceeds from the sale of the candle to its global Earth Month partner, Global Greengrants Fund.
