Rain, the much marred element, proved to be the inspiration for Spanish designer, Elena Montes Casado. The persistent pitter-patter of the Irish weather spurred the Spaniard into creating LadyUmbrella - a new ladies t-shirt company based in Dublin, Ireland which has just launched.
We, Irish natives, see and curse rain on an almost daily basis. We use umbrellas as shields to combat the all-too-familiar showers. Hailing from the much more pleasant climate of Madrid, Elena couldn't help but notice umbrellas everywhere covering people’s faces and so LadyUmbrella was born: a lady with an umbrella for a head.
The Irish weather was the catalyst for the creation of a collection of unique designs from Elena, featuring the leading lady, LadyUmbrella, in a variety of scenes and scenarios with a host of her feathered cohorts. Prior to their launch, an online American magazine, Nikera Clothing, caught wind of LadyUmbrella and promptly interviewed Elena.
One question touched on the inclusion of so many animals in the designs to which Elena replied: "One of the reasons is because LadyUmbrella is not a usual person so I couldn’t imagine her talking with other people: it’s LadyUmbrella in her own world, and in her world I can’t imagine her talking to human beings so instead she has lots of feathered friends (for now)."
LadyUmbrella have launched their online store amid an unprecedented flurry of online stories, blog posts and social media buzz. Their limited edition t-shirts at http://www.ladyumbrella.com are currently being sent to all the far reaching corners of the world - regardless of the weather.
