It is that time of year again!  Are you UP for the challenge?  This is not your typical 5k race.  Join the Fight For Air Climb Tampa stairclimb event where runners or walkers huff and puff their way up the 42-floors, 914-steps in the Bank of America Plaza in Downtown Tampa.

The 5th Annual Fight For Air Climb Tampa stairclimb event is raising awareness and funds for lung disease research, education, and prevention programs.  Amy Utt is climbing in memory of her mother who died of stage IV lung cancer in 2007. “She may be gone from our sight, but will remain forever in our hearts. My goal is to spread lung cancer awareness and to raise funds to fight lung disease. Please help me reach this goal by joining the Fight For Air Climb. This will be a fun, exciting, and challenging event that will benefit a worthy organization and help save lives,” said Utt.

There are more than 500 climbers with over $59,000 funds raised.  Though this may seem like a lot, the American Lung Association is still very far from their ambitious goal of $165,000 to help the fight for air. Whether or not you decide to participate in the actual the climb, you can also sponsor or be a spectator.

The stairclimb brings athletes and challenge-seekers together to support the important work of the American Lung Association.  Professionally timed and ranked, this vertical challenge attracts a wide range of participants, including novice to professional athletes, firefighters, police, military, corporate teams, families and lung champions.  Many people climb in honor or in memory of someone with lung disease, like Utt, and others are doing it to test their fitness levels.  Several firefighting teams participate in full gear, which adds an extra 65 pounds to the challenge, and still complete the climb in just 7 minutes!  Overall, the best climb time to beat is just 4 minutes and 33 seconds.  Whatever the reason, the climb is for a great cause!

When: Saturday, March 20th, 7 a.m. registration, 8 a.m. first climber starts (staggered start times)

Where: Bank of America Plaza, 101 E. Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL 33602

Registration Fee: $25, plus the required minimum fundraising pledge of $100.00.  Climbers receive a t-shirt, medal, freebies and refreshments at continuous after party.

Spectator Fee: $10 Donation (those not climbing, but would like to join the continuous after party.)
